Why?

Why is it that kids always get sick late at night? I don't think any of my kids have ever thrown up during the day. They will complain about not feeling well, but still run wild. Then they get in bed and sleep for a few hours then it hits. Oh the joy of cleaning up puke in the middle of the night. I must say I've been lucky and my kids don't get stomach flu's very often, hopefully this one doesn't go thru the whole family. Haley is feeling much better this morning though and kind of liked the attention she got last night. Cuddling with Mom and drinking sprite is kinda fun sometimes.

Coyote sighting

I'm thinking I live a little to close to nature right now. Yesterday as we drove to church we noticed a coyote right on the side of the road. It then crossed and was exploring up and down Calvert (which is just down from where we live). We of course had to turn around and watch it for a minute, we spooked it a bit so it ran back across the street and back up to the mountain. I'm actually surprised that we haven't seen more of them for as close as we are to the mountain/desert. The thing that makes me nervous about seeing one in a neighborhood is all the kids and pets. A lady was walking her little dog just down the street and could have easily ran into it. I think they are usually timid unless they feel they are in danger or REALLY hungry. In this house we've seen a tarantula and a coyote, what's next? I'll settle for butterflies :)

Soccer Success

So last week I just complained about how horrible Hunter's first soccer game went. I have to praise him for his game this week! He did great! He only cried twice and both times he had gotten knocked over by someone else, but he jumped right up and kept going. I was so proud of his big turn around. He was so close to getting a goal, but another boy on his team got in the way and made the goal himself. Oh well there are still a bunch of games to go! I'm just glad he's trying and most importantly HAVING FUN!

Girls Day Out

I'm so slow posting this even though it was a fun time. On Wednesday Haley and I took a break for the afternoon to see Hannah Montana "The Movie." Haley has just become a Huge fan over the last few months. I've always been glad that she isn't into all that tween pop stuff, but I must say it doesn't bother me to bad now. The movie was super cute and I admit I got a bit teary in parts, maybe it was just the company though. I LOVE spending time with Haley, she is such a joy to be with and laugh with. When we left to go to the show she let me know that Dad is more fun than me and she was sad he wasn't going, but I think she just felt bad leaving him home. She got over it quickly and enjoyed having some alone time. It helped that she got to hold the big bag of popcorn and finish off my Diet Coke :)

We got to watch a little dance performance on Friday night and she did great! Her teacher told me that she is always front and center in class because she remembers all the dances the best. That makes me feel so good! It's always nice to know your kids are excelling at what they do!

Nelson Happenings

Haley got the game ball last week. Man was she excited! She had a great game and played really hard! I was most proud that she didn't fight about what position she was playing. First inning she was catcher and she HATES being the catcher. She just can't move in all that equipment, but she did it and did a great job. She also got some great hits and I don't think I've ever seen her run that hard.

Hunter also had his first soccer game this weekend. It started out great and he was so excited to be there, but then the game started and he was DONE! I think taking him to soccer is the most frustrating thing I have ever done! He is always so excited, then he suddenly decides that everything is tragic and hangs his head to pout. I've decided that 3-year olds are NOT meant for organized sports. He's not the only one on the team having a fit, and I'm sure they all feed off of each other. We'll keep going and trying to get him involved, maybe the next game will be better. He does look cute in his uniform though! Before the Game . . . .

Other news is that it's SPRINKLER WEATHER!!! We got the "Waterpiller" out yesterday and the kids had fun in the backyard. They were soooo excited!

Easter 2009

Happy Easter Everyone! We had a wonderful weekend up in Utah. Why we head to the cold instead of staying home where it's warm is beyond me, but it is so fun to be with family. Friday morning we painted eggs, which is always fun then headed off to Coral Pink Sand Dunes with my brother Troy, Cameron, and their families. It was a little cold, but still tons of fun! The kids all loved the sand and I think we brought a lot of it home with us. Troy made a dutch oven dinner and we had the 4-wheelers so it was fun all around! I of course forgot my camera so I don't have a single picture, I'm sad I forgot it because there were some great picture opportunities. Saturday the guys headed to Salt Lake for a Jazz game and us girls got to stay home and hang out. We got a babysitter and went out to lunch. It was fun to visit with my Mom and Sister-in-Laws, we don't get to do that very often without kids and hubbys. I'm really lucky to be so close with them and we had a great time! We finished the evening with a few movies and stuffing Easter eggs for the next day. We ate our fair share of candy that night which was a fun way to end the day.

Sunday morning the kids looked thru their baskets finding something new to wear to church and a little toy. Haley and Hunter got sunglasses to and I had to bribe Hunter to give them up while we were in church. He thought he was pretty COOL! After church we had a little egg hunt and a huge Ham lunch with all the family. It was fun to visit with everyone and celebrate the holiday. I tried to make sure the kids understood the reason for Easter and I was surprised that they actually got it. Both Haley and Hunter were able to recount the Easter story about Jesus to me and it warmed my heart to know they do listen to me occasionally. It was a great weekend and I hope all of our friends and family had a equally great holiday!

Good Investments

Okay this is a strange thing to be excited about, but we just got some new mats for our suburban and I really like them. Michael had to talk me into buying them and they were more for him than me, but in the end I get to enjoy them most of the time. They are made by WeatherTech and fit perfectly! I really think they will be a good investment by saving the carpet from dirty little feet and spills. No matter how hard I try to keep messes out of the car, they always find a way in! I know it's silly, but I feel like our vehicle is an extension of our house and if it's dirty all the time it drives me CRAZY! Anyway, I highly recommend these mats. They are pretty much custom made for your vehicle and have great coverage with high sides to prevent spills from slopping up and onto the carpet. The extra money we spent on them is well worth it, seeing as I won't have to shampoo the carpets as often.

Another thing I just purchased that actually worked was a Pedegg. I'm sure you've seen these on TV and I'm always the skeptic, but I bought one on a whim and it worked really well. Hopefully it will keep working and you don't have to replace the blade every time. I hate my feet in the summer, they are always rough and cracking from wearing sandals. So I've had smooth feet for a few days and enjoying it so far. :)

The Big "ONE"

My Baby is one-year-old. I can't believe how fast the last year has gone! Harmon has been so fun to have around even though he has a temper like you wouldn't believe. His cuteness totally makes up for it. He is so close to walking, he could do it if he wanted to, but crawling is so much faster! We're still dealing with his red cheeks, but it's better than it used to be.
To celebrate his birthday we were lucky enough to stay home and watch conference, play, and have a yummy dinner. Steak, potatoes, corn, and watermelon. Okay the dinner was more for Mom and Dad, but Harmon found he loves watermelon and loves chewing on corn cobs. He got some fun presents from his brother and sister. Hunter insisted on getting him shoes and Haley picked out a pop up toy. We got him a little Micky Mouse airplane walker and he pushes it all over the house. The first birthday wouldn't be complete without some cake to smoosh around. Harmon wasn't a big fan of the cake, but loved the ice cream (Just like his Mom). Happy Birthday Harmon! We LOVE YOU!!

Spring Sunshine

Okay so it's been spring here for a little while, at least there have been blossoms appearing for the last month or so. We finally had some time last week to work in the yard and replace some plants that didn't survive our snow this year. Michael also trimmed all the plants that were trying to come back and WOW what a difference it made! Everything has taken off and there are new blossoms everywhere. I went to a gardening class a few weeks ago and learned that I needed to be patient with a few of our plants. I admit I didn't believe it when I was told that our crape mertyle would come back--we were all set to tear it out this weekend along with a tree that has looked very dead. I guess patience pays off they both have new buds that just appeared within the last day or two. I love spring! I think I'm loving it even more since we were freezing in Panguitch 2 days ago and now we're in shorts and flip flops. Oh, we even have apricots! Any tips on keeping the birds away from them would be helpful.

Long Overdue Thanks!

Since last week I've wanted to write a HUGE Thank you for all the comments and e-mails. Our little announcement was welcomed with words of encouragement and support. It is always nice to be reminded that I have such great friends and family who truly care about us. Some of you have way more confidence in me than I have in myself and I thank you for that!

While I am in thank you mode I have to thank Haley's primary teachers. For several weeks we have been talking to Haley about being baptized. Her cousin Brittney got baptized last Saturday and she was so excited to go to Panguitch and see Grandma and Grandpa, but didn't want to go to the Baptism. She would clearly state every time we talked about it that she was not going to be baptized! The thought of going under the water scared her to death even though it's 3 years away. Suddenly just before we left town she said how excited she was about going to see Brit get baptized and I asked her why she was okay with it. She let me know that they learned about baptism in her primary class and her teacher said she could plug her nose. Now she is okay with it and not scared at all. Thank you to wonderful primary teachers that know just what to say!

Lastly I have to thank my parents for letting me crash with them for a few days and Michael for letting me stay gone for a few days. We hadn't been to Panguitch since Christmas and I needed to get out of town. Unfortunately Michael had to stay home and be the responsible one. He coached Haley's t-ball team (without her), cleaned the house, and did some yard work. It was so nice to come home to a clean house. He deserves a long vacation for all the work he does! I took advantage of everyone this weekend. My Mom babysat while I got my hair done and my Sister in Law Jodi watched the kids to. What a nice break! Thanks to everyone who made it a great weekend!
